First introduced by mutual friends in January of 2007 at a club in London, Krystal Rodriguez and Mitchell Fern were friends for years before they started dating. But they eventually fell for one another and, on April 18, 2014, during a trip to Budapest, Mitchell proposed. “Friends suspected he would, but I was sure he wasn't going to. We were sharing a suitcase, and I knew there wasn't a ring in it!” says Krystal. But Mitchell outsmarted her, hiding the ring in his jacket pocket and popping the question while sipping champagne overlooking the city.
Though they call London home, Mitchell and Krystal invited 90 guests to join them at the Raleigh Hotel in Miami. “We loved the outdoor space, as well as the penthouse suite, which has its own function room. It meant the party could go as late as we wanted!” says the bride. The wedding party wore black and white, leaving plenty of room for pops of color from vibrant flowers and greenery. Take a peek at how this London couple celebrated under the Miami stars, photographed by A Heart String!

“I already had a deposit down on a different dress, but had to try this one on,” says Krystal of her Cymbeline gown, with lace and 3D flowers. “It was actually a design from 2013, and I knew I had to have it!” Her bridesmaids also wore white, donning knee-length dresses from Nasty Gal and milkmaid braids.
The bride carried a colorful bouquet of garden roses, anemones, sweet peas, seeded eucalyptus, and berries. She topped her bridal look with a floral crown, which matched Mitchell's succulent, berry, and ranunculus boutonniere.Photo by A Heart String Photo by A Heart String
The groom and his groomsmen all wore classic tuxedos. Guests sat in white chairs on either side of a sandy aisle, lit with candles in modern hurricane lanterns.Photo by A Heart String Photo by A Heart String
The two flower girls wore ballerina-inspired gray tulle dresses by Molly Goddard, which they paired with white Converse with hot pink laces. Instead of tossing flowers, the adorable attendants carried heart-shaped balloons down the aisle. “My heart melts every time I see pictures of them!” says Krystal.
The couple made a point of personalizing their ceremony, which they achieved with a reading of Bob Marley lyrics and an excerpt from Captain Corelli's Mandolin. Instead of a hymn, they chose “Wonderwall” by Oasis.Photo by A Heart String Photo by A Heart String
“We'd originally planned on a longer engagement, but the hotel was about to close the hotel for renovations, meaning if we wanted the venue we chose, we'd have to get married much sooner!” says Krystal of their late December nuptials.

Guests were seated at long tables beneath strings of cafГ© lights. Low centerpieces combined eucalyptus, garden roses, anemones, and berries in bright hues, with candles in gold mercury glass holders between the arrangements.

The best man's speech was one of Mitchell and Krystal's favorite memories. And how could they not love a ukulele performance and a crew of groomsmen serving as backup dancers?Photo by A Heart String Photo by A Heart String

“We were in Miami for two weeks surrounding our wedding, and loved getting to introduce our family and friends. So many friendships were made during that trip!” says the bride, who spent the morning of her wedding with her bridesmaids decorating the suite for the after party.
Says Krystal, “Our wedding was incredible, and it was amazing to see who rallied together with us to make it all happen. But I wish someone had told me about post-wedding anxiety! No one prepares you for how long you will spend going over the tiny details after the fact. Just let it go!”
