He popped the question and you said "Yes!" Now what? Before you post engagement-ring selfies on Instagram or update your Facebook status, you should tell your parents. Give them the honor of hearing the news first. But how should you share the happy news? Wait for them to notice the ring? Blurt out "We're engaged!" as soon as you see them? Here's our guide to letting your parents know you're getting married.

1. Face-to-Face

If you're able to tell your parents in person, instead of over the phone, do it. Not only is this the most respectful route, but it's also more fun to see their reactions in person. Some couples may want to share the happy news over a special dinner; if you decide to go that route, be sure to choose a restaurant that's nice and quiet - you definitely don't want your engagement announcement to be drowned out by loud music or noisy restaurant clamor. But don't feel like you need to spend money on a fancy dinner for it to be the ideal location - sharing the news with them at home will be memorable and perfect.

2. Over the Phone

If it's not possible to tell your parents in person, then pick up the phone. Try to get them both on the line, if possible; speakerphone is a good idea or FaceTime, if they have phones with video capabilities - you don't want to miss out on their reactions!

3. Get Creative

If you want to tell your parents about your engagement in a more fun and creative way, you could send them a selfie of you and your groom-to-be, standing in the spot where you just got engaged. (Then, follow up with a phone call, of course.) Or, you could create a mock save-the-date card and mail it to them as a surprise.
