Any Parks and Recreation fan worth their cones not only knows what Galentine's Day is, but is well-versed in the traditional practices involved in this special day-sacred traditions invented by none other than one of our all-time favorite TV personalities, Leslie Knope (played by the one and only Amy Poehler). For those who don't know, Galentine's Day is celebrated on February 13th, the day before Valentine's day, when, instead of celebrating your S.O., you celebrate all your best lady friends… because let's be honest, they're pretty dang important.
In the words of Leslie herself: "Oh, it's only the best day of the year. Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It's like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus frittatas."
While we love the idea of keeping this as Leslie would traditionally want it, we also think there are just too many ways celebrate your ladies-why keep Galentine's Day just to a breakfast celebration? Here are some ideas for a super fun Galentine's celebration, whether you're choosing waffles and mimosas or steaks and bourbon (although that may be more of a Ron Swanson move).
Go the traditional Galentine's Day route
Wanna keep the celebration the way Leslie intended? We feel you! There's certainly nothing we enjoy more than waffles and mimosas-but maybe do a breakfast for dinner type thing so that you don't have to go into work after celebratory champagne. You'll need…
1) A waffle iron
It may not be JJ's Diner, but serving waffles is kind of a must if you're going to go the "traditional" route. We think this heart-shaped waffle iron is just adorable! And we like the idea of having a waffle bar-prepare a few different types of batter! Pinterest is teaming with cool waffle recipes-try a savory cheddar and bacon, a sweet red velvet, and a normal buttermilk batter. Then, set up some different toppings in little bowls, filled with the usual suspects like butter and syrup and some more unexpected ones like cream cheese frosting and shredded cheese. Depending on the number of drinks your ladies have, the combinations could get pretty interesting!

What goes well with a waffle bar? A mimosa bar, naturally! Well technically, let's call it a champagne bar, because there are no end of things you can add to you bubbly, and who wants to be limited to orange juice? Grab some pretty carafes filled with your favorite juices, some edible flowers (for Instagram, of course), and your nicest stemware and get to it!

Don't let your gals leave empty handed! Send them all off with these cute mini bottle of sparkling rosГ© or champagne (with these sweet tags attached). Bundle them up with some fun straws (we love these chic glass ones) tied up in a bow, and your ladies will be mucho impressed with your entertaining skills.
Pretend you're still in elementary school
Wanna get a little nostalgic for Galentine's? Invite all of your gals over (or chose a fave bar to reserve a table at) for an old-school version of Val-turned-Galentines day. You'll need…
Remember in grade school how you would decorate cardboard boxes and cut slots in them to make little mailboxes? Have a little crafting project for your ladies with fun stickers and paint, and go real old school by providing shoeboxes or cardboard boxes for decorating or upgrade and get actual small blank metal mailboxes like the one above.

2) Galentine's Day Cards
Have all your gal's bring over a GDay card for everyone who's going to be at the party. Remember, it's just like elementary school-you should give one to everyone; you don't want any hurt feelings! Etsy is chock-full of 'em, or you can craft your own beforehand.

3) Conversation candy heart everything
Nothing says classic grade school VDay-turned-GDay like a good ol' convo heart. We've seen them in the form of everything from piГ±ata to pin to cocktail ideas.
Want something a little more on the ahem sophisticated side for your gals? Try hosting a cocktail party and sending out invites suggesting cocktail attire-any excuse to wear that little black dress, right?? You'll need…
1) Themed cocktails galoreStocksy
If you're hosting, it's of course easiest to do batch cocktails-depending on how many of your friends are coming over (and psst-check out our cocktail series for some inspiration), but how about suggesting everyone bring over ingredients to make a Galentine-themed cocktail of their choosing? You could have a taste-test cocktail extravaganza!
2) Crowd pleasing appetizersFondly Forever Photography
With all those creative cocktails, you'll definitely need some delish appetizers to go with them. If you want to nod towards the originator of Galentine's Day, we suggest looking up a recipe that includes waffles in some capacity-chicken and waffle bites? Yes please!
3) Fun takeaways
Because everyone loves a favor, even at a cocktail party! We loveeee these disco ball tumblers from ban.do (and psst, they have tons of great gift ideas for your gals), plus they provide a perfect Instagram opportunity, naturally!
